Plaza de Colon - Mayaguez, Puerto Rico

At the center of Mayaguez City is the elegant and recently remodeled Plaza de Colon. The Catholic Church at the plaza "Our Lady of the Calendaria" was built in 1836, the original was first erected in 1780. In 1918 an earthquake destroyed the ceiling and it was rebuilt but due to lack of funding not with the original intricate details.

Best way to enjoy the Plaza is late afternoon with some delicious ice cream from Rex. If you are facing the Alcaldia (city hall), walk a few steps to the road on the right, you'll see a sign for Rex Cream.

Iglesia Catolica

On Sundays you will find locals going to church and some proudly cruising on their antique cars around the Plaza.

Right across from the Plaza is the beautiful Alcaldia (City Hall)

Around the Plaza sometimes  you can find local artists selling jewelry, art, and souvenirs.
